Door maker Carlisle opens £ 3million center


CLARK Door Limited, a leading manufacturer of special purpose door systems based in Carlisle, has opened a new £ 3million research and development center.

The state-of-the-art test facility began construction in 2019, supported by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.

Although construction of the facility was completed in 2020, the possibility of officially opening the center has been delayed due to the pandemic.

Now, over 18 months later, Clark Door felt it was time to welcome guests to tour the facility and officially declare it open.

Andrew Ashley, Managing Director of Clark Door, opened the ceremony by presenting one of the company’s doors – a four-ton acoustic sliding door specially designed for a movie studio, before enlightening guests about the company and how the new facility has significantly contributed to the growth of the business.

Carlisle MP John Stevenson gave a speech describing Clark Door’s contribution to the local and national economy, defining the company as “an outstanding example of the government’s upgrading agenda.”

Clark Door HR Manager Antonette Cullen then presented a video highlighting the learning program in place at Clark Door and how such an investment created a number of opportunities within the company. as well as in the region.

Commenting on the event, John Stevenson said, “It was a pleasure speaking at Clark Door to mark the opening of their state-of-the-art research and development center today.

“The company’s growth path is remarkable and it now exports its highly specialized product to more than 45 countries around the world. A true testament to innovative and inspiring leadership and a concentrated, committed and highly qualified workforce.

The event concluded with Paul Ashley, President of Clark Door and Jo Lappin, CEO of Cumbria LEP, unveiling a commemorative plaque, marking the occasion with pyrotechnics to declare the R&D center officially open.

Speaking after the opening, Andrew Ashley said: “We are really excited to officially open our R&D center today. The investment the company has made shows our commitment to the region, our workforce, our suppliers and our valued customers. ”
