SoHum Health Raises Salaries to Retain Employees and Get Future Healthcare Workers – KIEM-TV

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – Garberville-based SoHum Health operates several hospitals, clinics and a pharmacy in southern Humboldt County. They are looking to expand their healthcare system with more than a dozen immediate vacancies.

In an effort to recruit and retain healthcare workers, SoHum Health is now offering all employees a travel allowance, $0.20 per mile.

The health district board also voted to raise the salaries of all of its employees.

“Our job as a district hospital is to provide excellent services to our community. The most important part of the services we provide are our employees who take care of the patients. So we’re taking some of our money and putting it back into our district,” said Matt Reeves, CEO of SoHum Health.

SoHum staff host several community outreach events around Humboldt County to contact potential candidates and offer information about what SoHum Health has to offer.

“It’s rural out there in Garberville, so staffing can be a challenge for us due to the location. Being a critical access rural hospital, it is important to retain staff, especially during covid,” said Jennifer Baskin, Human Resources Manager, SoHum Health.
